Since 1973, our researchers and volunteers have patrolled Wassaw’s beaches through every nesting season — tagging, protecting, and studying Georgia’s loggerheads in one of the longest-running sea turtle projects in the world.
Our strategy

Rigorous nest-protection procedures minimize direct threats to eggs and hatchlings on Wassaw Island and increase annual hatchling production.
